Track 12 of 12 on Wings & Prayers and Second Flight

Little Brave Heart (We Can Do It)

The same encouragement as track five, sung by everyone together rather than to one.

About this song

The closer, and a deliberate echo: track five sung again with every “you” turned to “we.” The road is still long, the thunder still speaks, but the child who was being sung to is now singing, hands held tight, side by side. The words barely change; the company does. The album’s last instruction is for everybody at once: everybody sing. Together we can do it.

In the storybook, Chapter Eleven: Little Brave Heart shares this song’s name.

The song

See a gold underline? Tap it. The little pilot has a note for you. The underlined words are buttons: each one opens a Little Blue Pilot Note.

When the road feels long and our shoes feel small
Take one deep breath, we can climb that wall
The sky might rumble, the trees might shake
Still our hands are steady, and

Look at us now, eyes up high
Little brave hearts, time to try

We can do it, we can do it, little brave hearts
We can do it, we can do it, we can do it
Rise, rise, right up, we can do it

Hold your head up high, together there's hope
Every tiny step makes a bigger trail
, we will not fail

Look at us now,
Little brave hearts, shine your light

We can do it, we can do it, little brave hearts
We can do it, we can do it, we can do it
Rise, rise, right up, we can do it

When the thunder speaks, let it pass on by
We were made for this, reach and touch the sky

One more step, one more song

We can do it, we can do it
Little brave hearts, we can do it
We can do it, we can do it
Rise, rise, right up
We can do it, we can do it
Everybody sing

We can do it, we can do it

Little Blue Pilot Notes

our hearts won't break

Track five sang your steps don't break. This version changes it to our hearts.

That is the biggest single edit between the two songs, and it moves the promise from the body to the thing underneath the body. Steps are about carrying on. Hearts are about what carrying on costs.

And it is our. Whatever is holding, it is holding for everybody at once.

If the dark rolls in like a heavy coat

The same dark, and the same heavy coat, as track five, word for word.

What changed is the line underneath it. In track five you held your chin up high, on your own. Here, together there's hope.

The weather is identical. The company is not.

Even if we wobble

Rocking from side to side without going over, which is what balancing looks like while it is happening.

Now listen to the word the song swapped. Track five said even when you wobble, promising the wobble was coming. Track twelve says even if.

In a crowd holding each other level, it might not.

hands held tight

The bravest position there is.

You cannot hold somebody's hand and be alone at the same time. It is physically impossible, and the song knows it.

Look at what comes immediately afterwards, too: shine your light. Holding on is the thing that happens first.

Side by side, we've been strong

Side by side means level with each other. Nobody in front, nobody behind. It is also how aircraft fly in formation, wingtip to wingtip.

But the tense is the surprise. Not we are strong. We have been.

The strength was already there, and already shared, long before anybody thought to say it out loud.

Together we can do it

The last words on the whole album, and they are an instruction rather than a wish.

Look at the line directly above them: everybody sing. That is the moment the record stops describing something and starts asking you to join in.

Track five taught one child you can. Track twelve hands it to everyone.
